Safe Haven, A Poem by Sarnia de la Mare, song by Tale Teller Club

“Safe Haven” is an anthem of grief and fury — a protest-poem for the children caught in war and hate. It refuses silence, naming the perpetrators, mourning the innocent, and invoking cosmic justice.

 Safe Haven

Your hate they can feel

Goes way deep inside

And they can’t shake the feeling

That they’re going to die

The children are marching

Their Journey through Hell

Your hate hits their cheeks

And they die where they fell

Toy soldiers are melting

Dolls’ faces are breaking

This world that you’re making

Keeps taking and taking

Little pink hearts

Keep beating and beating

For love and safe haven

They’re waiting and waiting

Little girl singers

Little boy drummers

Your stealing their winters

Erasing their summers

Under the rubble

Of your toxic hate

The blood of the babies

Seeps under the gate

The gate of a home

Once filled with love

Where angels come down

To take them above

A place filled with doves

that you’ll never dwell

Cos all the warmongers

Are Going to Hell

🔥 Creative Analysis of Safe Haven

The Drumbeat of Outrage:

Safe Haven is a lament, a battle cry, and a condemnation all at once. It begins by addressing an unnamed “you,” holding them responsible for a world poisoned by hate. The repetition of “they” in the opening stanzas is devastating: it makes the victims anonymous yet universal — children who “can’t shake the feeling that they’re going to die.”

Childhood Shattered:

Images of toys melting, dolls breaking, and stolen seasons (“stealing their winters / erasing their summers”) transform innocence into a battlefield. These are not distant wars — this is violence entering the nursery, breaking the domestic space, and shattering safety itself.

Religious Undertone & Judgement:

The final verses turn prophetic: angels gather the dead children, the perpetrators are banished to hell. The poem closes like a curse, a verdict: there is no redemption for warmongers, no dwelling in the house of doves.

Musical Power:

Set to music as Dinfant’s Anthem, the words gain collective strength — it becomes a dirge for the fallen and a rallying cry for the living. The rhythm suggests march and heartbeat, emphasizing that the children’s lives are the pulse of the world.

🎯 Themes & Imagery

Innocence under fire: Toys, dolls, seasons — metaphors of childhood made violent.
Prophetic anger: The poem judges and condemns, refusing neutrality.
Lament + Anthem: Grief becomes fuel for resistance, a demand for love and safe haven.
Moral clarity: No grey zones — war and hatred are unequivocally damned.

🔥 Safe Haven

Mood: Fierce, marching, uncompromising — part lullaby, part battle cry.
Voice: Speak as though addressing a crowd — there’s no shyness here.
Rhythm: Short lines — hit them like drumbeats. You can even add a percussive stress on the first syllable of each line (“YOUR hate / THEY can feel…”).
Refrains: Lines like “Little pink hearts / Keep beating and beating” could be slightly slower, heavier — let them feel like the heartbeat of the piece.
Crescendo: Each stanza should climb — the toy stanza, then the rubble stanza — until you arrive at the final curse: “Are Going to Hell” should be delivered with absolute conviction.
Ending: Let there be a pause after the final line. Silence is part of the impact — make the audience sit with it.

Overall Vibe: A protest anthem or war song. A lament that doesn’t just mourn — it condemns, warns, and calls for change.
