A speculative fiction series about machines, memory, and the strange emotional architecture that defines human life.
The Book of Immersion is a philosophical science-fiction series by Sarnia de la Maré, exploring the boundary between human emotion and artificial intelligence. The story follows Renyke, an aging android placed into human society as part of an ambitious experiment to merge machine logic with human empathy. Each chapter—known as a Strata—begins with a short reflective essay examining human behaviour, technology, and the fragile structures that shape civilisation before unfolding into narrative events within the Immersion world.
Blending speculative fiction, philosophy, and multimedia storytelling, the Immersion series expands beyond traditional novels. Episodes appear as written chapters, podcasts, and visual works, forming an evolving narrative universe. Themes include artificial consciousness, love, identity, power structures, and the unpredictable consequences of human-machine collaboration. Through Renyke’s journey, The Book of Immersion asks one central question: what happens when the machine begins to feel the weight of being human?
